Summer 2016

Meditative Drawing: The Basics

Meditative Drawing is a fun, relaxed way of creating beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.  We will examine how drawing these structured patterns lead to a relaxed, meditative state. You will learn new tangle patterns while creating a small piece of art to take home each week. This class offers a more relaxed pace than the other meditative drawing classes and all artwork can be completed in class.
No previous drawing experience is required.

Meditative Drawing: Victorian Era Inspirations

Meditative Drawing is a fun, relaxed way of creating beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.  The Victorian style of architecture and decorative arts may bear the name of Queen Victoria, but it was an aesthetic response of a society to industrialization.  We will  cover the qualities and characteristics of the Victorian Era while learning step-by-step tangle patterns inspired by this amazing era of change and ostentatious embellishment.

 Zentangle® Basic

Zentangle is an easy-to-learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.
For all levels of artistic experience even if you are convinced you can't draw!

Zentangle: Zengems, Tangles, and More!

"Zengems" are the newest trend to add to your Zentangle artwork! We will start with the basics of how to create the Zengems using markers and colored pencils. Then we will learn new tangle patterns to add to our Zengem creations. There will be time to experiment and play in this advance Zentangle class. Be sure and bring your sketchbooks and basic Zentangle tools.

Zentangle® Advance
*The Basic class is required prior to taking this class

Continue to grow in the Zentangle Method as we learn more about strings, tangle enhancers, shading techniques, and more tangle
patterns that require a higher level of focus.  Bring your "mini kit" from the Basic class.

 Zentangle: Special Projects4
*The Basic class is required prior to taking this class

Continue your creativity in this advanced class with all new special projects. Complete at least three larger format art pieces.  Bring your Zentangle supplies with you.

Zentangle: A Little Lime

*Must have completed Zentangle: Advance prior to taking this class.

Advanced Zentangle students will be challenged and excited as we explore the style, tangles, and techniques of Aussie tangler, Helen Williams.  Helen's style involves taking common tangles and turning them into free form organic artworks as well as converting free form tangles into beautiful structured works of art.  We will have so much fun taking Zentangle out of the box by adding a "twist of lime" to the traditional method.  This class is not for the beginning tangler.

Fun With Lettering

We will explore lettering using various types of markers and adorn your pages with your OWN fancy letters.  We will create different styles of letters created by basic mono-line pens, calligraphy, and brush pens.  We'll cover at least 6 different lettering styles you can combine with calligraphy or your own handwriting.  You are welcome to bring your favorite pens and markers.  This class focuses on the correct use of tools and letter-form.  Several different marker styles will be included in your class supplies.
(This is not a Zentangle class or a calligraphy class)

 American Indian Inspirations

Centuries of history are captured in the artwork and decorations of the many tribes of American Indians.  We will learn new patterns by taking a look back in time at the old patterns created by the many tribes of American Indians.

Dr. Seuss Inspirations

As the title suggests, we will learn new patterns inspired by the books and colors of Dr. Seuss. (Yes, we will be playing with color).

Landscapes

 Zentangle: Renaissance Tiles

This is NOT a beginning class.  You will do best if you have taken the Zentangle: Advance class prior to taking this class.
During the Renaissance a drawing technique called Chiaroscuro emerged in the fine art world. These
types of drawings were done on subtly colored or toned paper. This class will introduce how the Zentangle Method and components of this Renaissance drawing technique come together. Students will become familiar with the techniques that will give their work that recognizable Renaissance look and feel. They will explore tangles from a new angle. Working on Zentangle Renaissance Tiles, students will use brown, black and white pens to work the surface, and continue to create shadow and highlight with graphite and white charcoal pencils.

Zentangle: Tips, Tricks, & Twists
*The Basic class is required prior to taking this class

This advanced class will teach you unusual strings and how to play with shapes and see old tangles in new and exciting ways.  Bring your mini-kit from the Basic class.
